Pick-Dressed

The Coarse-grain Pick-Dressed finish is a rougher cut, with thicker, deeper and more spaced out carving whereas the Fine-grain Pick-Dressed is more delicate with tighter, lighter and thinner lines.

• Indoors, you would prefer to keep this finish exclusively as wall application and not for flooring for a better ease of cleaning.
• Minimal thickness of 3 cm for Fine grain Pick-Dressed and of 5 cm for Coarse grain Pick-Dressed.

Usage: Both indoor and outdoor, on floors, walls as well as for furniture

Indoor: Shower wall, wall decoration for entrance hall and stairwell, counters, furniture and decorative elements

Outdoor: Tiling, terraces, facades, wall bases, fountains and other decorative or sculpted elements.

Technical description:

The 'Pick-Dressed' finish refers to the surface finish made with a tool having 1 to 4 tungsten carbide teeth or blades, on a large surface (slice) that has been sawn (if mechanically cut), or cleaved (if done manually) before being cut to size. Its surface shows light grey chiselling on the dark grey background of the splintered stone - numerous small, short, isolated marks, more or less parallel to each other (width: 1 to 5 mm, length: 5 to 25 mm, depth: 2 to 7 mm), oblique or parallel to the edges (from 45° to 60°) and separated by very marked splintering breaks. The pick-dressed surface can be made coarse or fine depending on the frequency of the blows (spaced from 5 to 20 mm in manual, from 1.5 to 7 mm in mechanical).

Pick-dressing a surface manually will give a rougher appearance to the stone compared to the mechanical process as the surface will look more irregular. The mechanical fine Pick-Dressed, on the other hand, has many similarities with the Old cut mechanical in its construction and appearance.
